I. God requires relationship as a system for growth.

How did Jesus grow? (Luke 2:52)

How do horizontal and vertical relationships apply to our growth?

 

Which is more important?

  • What does Philippians 4:19 tell us about our needs (basic and felt needs).

 

II. Three key systems of relationships established by God:

  1. Marriage – key word: mission. (Genesis 1:27-8)

  2. Parents and children – key words: legacy and honor. (Psalm 127:3, Ephesians 6:1)

  3. Friends – key word: encouragement (1Thessalonians 5:11)

 

III. Practical tips for relationships.

  1. Healthy relationships are founded in the love of God. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

  2. Healthy relationships have boundaries (2 Corinthians 6:14, Galatians 5:13)

  3. Healthy relationships should bear fruit. (John 15:1-2)

 

IV. One person can start a healthy relationship. (Romans 12:18)
